Here's some more testing of the new camera on random scenes along the train tracks near where I work. Our offices in South Baltimore are on the penninsula that is bracketed by Federal Hill and Fort McHenry. The train tracks that stripe this chunk of land originally carted immigrants away from a pier whose traffic in arrivals was at one time second only to Ellis Island.

Anyway, though the resolution is effectively higher in this new camera, the color saturation is pretty bad. The photos I've taken in bright sunlight so far all look ashy and dull. I noticed right away that the corners of every image are completely blurred too. The high JPEG compression leaves the image very soft in general. An example of better quality phone camera images can be seen on Xeni Jardin's Phonecam Blog. On the "bright" side, the new camera sensor seems to capture a little more detail in low light. All of these issues are eased by the fact that this is still a (relatively) cheap low resolution camera accessory.
