I stopped into my favorite alternative bookstore this afternoon to scan the new releases table. My alternative picks were Jon Stewart's America (The Book) A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction, which is a smart concentration of Daily Show humor presented in the format of a college textbook. I love the two-page map of future Washingtion, D.C. in chapter 8. The book is chock full of marginalia "facts" and includes a pull-out poster of our "Shadow Government." For the next month or so, this book will be a chic hipside accessory to carry around D.C.

My other takeaway was Flips - Book Seven - Animation from Hong Kong publisher IdnPRO. The book is a broad survey of recent animation, and comes with a DVD containing video of about 95% of the animations pictured in the book.

All good front porch reading for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
