You can hear the sound of your own breathing standing under the stack of 300,000 books at the George Peabody Library. Books are such a quiet technology. The book sale and lecture podium are gone this year because in their place is a new exhibition space. The show "Collector's Obsessions: A Treasury of Books" continues until January 2, 2005.
