Zilker Christmas Tree Mon 12.02.02 4:52pm PST #1688 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I don't know what order these will show up in, but you should be able to get the gist. This is the GIANT Christmas tree at Zilker Park in Austin. It's actually not a tree at all. The 'tree' is made up of about thirty strings of colored lights strung from the top of a large light tower, known to Austinites as a 'moon tower'. At the top of the tower, two identical stars rest at the apex of the tree. These stars are approximately seventy feet in the air. The strings of lights then stretch out to the tops of telephone poles arranged in a circle around the center tower. The lights are arranged so that a curved pattern appears as you walk around the tree. But the best part is standing underneath the tre, looking up, and spinning. The first of these pictures are taken from a distance. The next couple are taken while spinning under the tree. The last one is what it would look like if you fell over because you were ridiculously dizzy from spinning under a giant christmas tree while watching your hiptop screen trying to get just the right pic.
