| Morning Walk Sat 06.25.05 8:48am PDT #14188 |
![]() ![]() ![]() Well it's almost noon and the movers aren't here yet. We took the very short walk to the end of our street, which has an entrance to Wheaton Regional Park. Along the way, we met Neighbor Ingrid and her dog Chelsea. Ingrid gave us a tour of the walking trail loop nearest to us that will make for a perfect 20-minute dog walk in the mornings. - mike lee |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Daddy me was essentially the welcome wagon after returning to the house with a carload from Target and the supermarket. I got 1) liquid for me 2) yogurt for baby 3) wine for mom 4) coffee for morning. Mom set up 5) iPod with speakers 6) LCD TV 8) lawnchairs and an 9) inflatable mattress. The first book in the house is 7) Thomas L. Friedman's The World is Flat. - mike lee - wheaton, md |

![]() ![]() ![]() After many, many signatures, Paul and Marie (with the help of the title company and banks) have passed their house on to us. The flurry of contract papers passed around the settlement table helped distract us from what was an emotional experience for all. They are off to lunch and more unpacking, and we the same to prepare for spending our first night in the house. Several tons of Baltimore arrive by truck tomorrow so we want to be in place, rested and ready. - mike lee - silver spring, md |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Another bunch of school kids were building a geodesic dome at the National Building Museum the other day (5). After downing my ham and brie on baguette from the museum cafe, I picked up the new Moleskine Reporter notebook and a set of Fabulous Fonts Knowledge Cards. Fun brain toys. - mike lee - washington, dc |
| Sniffing Our New Neighbors Thu 06.23.05 10:13pm PDT #14158 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ...well not quite. When we arrived to do a final walkthrough of the house we are going to own tomorrow afternoon, our real estate agent, who is also a network security consultant, was scanning the area for open WiFi. Bless his geeky heart. I was inspired to do some warwalking around the house with my PowerBook running MacStumbler. We only turned up some intermittent weak signals, so it's likely that we'll be without broadband until Comcast arrives in a two weeks. Warwalking neighbors I haven't met yet makes me wonder if there needs to be an entry in a new millenium book on ettiquette that says, "don't sniff your neighbor's data packets until they've borrowed your lawn mower." The other entry should say, "it's boorish to announce to a new neighbor that their network is not secure. Wait until the end of your first dinner with them." - mike lee - wheaton, md - take a look at this heartwarming note the sellers left for us today. |
| At The George... Tue 06.21.05 7:09pm PDT #14121 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ...again today. Two weeks after our Web 2011 workshop, my managers and I were here at the Hotel George again today with our teams and a facilitator from Organizational Learning and Performance for a retreat (4). Shortly before I was to welcome the group, I decided that I needed to print out extra copies of Maister's list of common traits of trusted advisors. I went to the hotel's "Get Connected" room (2), which offered a PC, internet, laser printer and fax (3). Miraculously, I was able to quickly log on to Gmail, access my document, and print 20 copies in two minutes. Usually, simple tasks like this on public equipment involve some kind of login gymnastics or printer jam hell. The printouts ended up being a useful addition to the day's conversation. Tonight, I'm relaxing at home with a beer and a copy of Terminator 2 UMD (5) on my Sony PSP. My memory of today's small technology success will soon be swept away by images of robots wreaking havoc. - mike lee - langley park, md |
