We turn the pages on chapters in several family histories today. My wife's childhood home, loving named Hickory Top, goes on open house this afternoon after 38 years, and it's in top "buy me" form.

At the same time today, a big group of family will convene for Grandpa McCartney's funeral service. He leaves us in his 88th year after an early retirement from IBM, which enabled him to travel the country for 30+years to visit far flung family members. His presence brought the kind of gentle authority that binds families together.

And it's my birthday today! My treat today was brunch at Buffalo Jack's. I had the Mountain Man breakfast, and made a mental note to sample the elk venison or wild boar next time.

I went with my father-in-law to walk the last night of the Great Darke County Fair. The weather was great and the grounds weren't crowded at all. Pictured here are the midway, a candy vendor, a ride, product display, and the demolition derby from afar.

Cianna's grandpa took us out to the Dairy Barn for shakes and soft serve ice cream. Cianna got a 1/2 small size vanilla shake and promptly popped the top, spilling a lot of it on herself and the car seat. She alternated between crying from the cold stuff in her lap and laughing while sucking down the remains of her treat (3 & 4). Emotional ups and downs still net out to a good time for baby because she got ice cream in her belly.

1-4) Cianna helps out in prepping the yard at her grandparent's house. It's for sale and the open house is tomorrow. Yard work is tiring and brings on a nap. 5-8) Cianna visits her gp's new house a few blocks away and breaks it in with the ritualistic tossing of the rubber ball.

21-month-old Cianna visited her great grandmother today on the occasion of her 103rd birthday. The two shared a cupcake and passed flowers back and forth. Oh, and the last picture is Cianna honking g-gma's nose!
