| New Nano Sun 09.25.05 11:46am PDT #15461 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My wife charitably offered that I could go ahead an buy a 4 gig iPod nano and put away my green iPod mini for our daughter. At the Bethesda Apple Store just now, I went with the offer before she could change her mind. There were a pile of nanos in a plastic bin behind the cash register in the back of the store. In the 10 minutes I was there, they sold four of them. - mike lee - bethesda, md |
| Shanghai Wars Fri 09.23.05 6:36pm PDT #15430 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My brother's wife just got back from a trip to Shanghai and brought back a ripped DVD of Revenge of the Sith which she picked up at a street market for $5. The audio quality is really good, but the video is only somewhat better than VHS quality. The chinese subtitles can conveniently be turned off in the options menu. The disc plays fine on my laptop, but the audio chokes when the disc is played on my new progressive scan player. Well this will be fun watch once or twice until my pre-order of the real DVD arrives in a few weeks. - mike lee |

| Basking In Baltimore Again Thu 09.22.05 10:25pm PDT #15416 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I took the day off work today to run errands in our old home town of Baltimore. Since I had to take my rented minivan to empty and close out a storage locker in Hampden, I made some stops in the area. Pictured here first is a Crab Town Project sculpture in front of Cafe Hon. I met up with Dianne, my manager from my last job, for a leisurely lunch on The Avenue. Then I made the required stop at my favorite alternative bookstore Atomic Books. Today's loot included ReadyMade no. 19, McSweeney's Issue no. 16, and Lulu Eightball. Visits complete, I headed south on the ramps out of town with the last artifacts of our former life in Baltimore. - mike lee - wheaton, md |

| Chick and Ruth's Delly Sat 09.17.05 2:07pm PDT #15356 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We found ourselves today at our scenic state capitol to meet the Carters for lunch. We chose Chick and Ruth's Delly on Main Street. The fare was well-portioned diner food in a narrow dining room with walls completely covered with framed photos of politicians and celebrities. Cianna amazed everyone by eating pickle pieces and chasing with lemon. She stopped short of the cup of Old Bay spice. Girl can eat. - mike lee - annapolis, md |

| The Man Who Doesn't Want Us To Think. Fri 09.16.05 5:15am PDT #15326 |
![]() ![]() ![]() I try to snag web experts when they are in town presenting workshops to come speak to our team. Lou Rosenfeld and Steve Krug are here in town delivering their workshops on enterprise information architecture and usability. Lou came last year, so this year we brought in Steve, who has just seen the release of the second edition of his common sense guide to web site usability Don't Make Me Think. As always, his talk was loaded with hilarious examples of usability problems. The new edition of Steve's book has been updated throughout and three new chapters were added. It's required reading if you make web content. - mike lee - washington, dc |
