| Office at night Sun 10.20.02 5:15pm PDT #700 |

I'm in my office to pick up my laptop, and I thought I'd capture the only visible signs of activity. On the video wall in the lobby, our harbor camera faithfully shows the shimmering street lights of Fells Point reflected in the calm water. The rest of the darkened office landscape is a digital Milky Way of blinking network activity indicators, which hint at the ghosts of web surfers accessing our servers. |
| SnapWatch2 Sat 10.19.02 3:00pm PDT #662 |
![]() ![]() At the mall, I just bought this cool new watch called the SnapWatch2 from Hog Wild, Inc. It's a tiny LCD watch circuit in a waterproof pod attached to a short length of thin climbing rope. The ends of the rope just snap on as you can see in the picture. This is a significant find for me as I haven't bought or worn a watch in five years. I just got tired of the sweaty grip most all men's watch bands have on your wrist. The SnapWatch is so minimal, you quickly forget you have it on. The only drawback is that the display doesn't have a backlight. The watch goes for $9.95, and the rope band comes in several colors. - mike lee - baltimore - curiouslee.com |
| 22 miles into the Baltimore Marathon Sat 10.19.02 9:19am PDT #648 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These photos in no way capture the determination in the runner's faces and the joyus smiles of the cheering neighbors. The 5,000 runners are doing the 26.2 mile marathon route, which runs right by our house where a refreshment station marks the 22-mile point. The crowd is cheering "way to go! You guys rock!" When one spectator shouted "only four miles to go, it's all down hill from here" and to that a runner said, " yeah right, I've heard that before..." |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've meaning to try a photocollage ever since I realized that our host is formatting photos in rows of four. My wife is being a very patient subject as usual. We're at Donna's Restaurant by the Hopkins Homewood Campus. - mike lee - baltimore - curiouslee.com |
| Demoing the Sidekick at school Fri 10.18.02 2:11pm PDT #624 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm on campus taking care of some paperwork, and just demoed the Sidekick to Rich Lipscher, who teaches 3D modeling and animation. The two-shot is a self-portrait and that's Rich on the left. Rich was telling me that their 3D print service is in full swing. Students and faculty can create wireframe models in Solidworks, and with the press of a button, the machine creates a real object. It takes about 3 hours for the machine to build up something the size of a baseball. The other frames are some not-so-great shots of some of the output. And that's Angelo who works at the computer lab support desk. - mike lee - baltimore - curiouslee.com |
| Meeting the "Yoda" of usability Fri 10.18.02 1:48pm PDT #622 |
Dr. Jonathan Lazar of Towson University came by our office for a visit today. Dianne and I had a great chat with him about his research interests in user frustration, human-computer interaction and usability. His students have dubbed him "the Yoda of usability" because most teachers or consultants have some name like "Father of..." or "Guru." Regardless of the appropriateness of the nickname, Jon is one of the most energetic and passionate practitioners and teachers of usability anywhere. We're really looking forward to working with him some more soon. And how timely it was to talk about frustrations with technology as my main blog site is still down. Hopefully all will be well by the morning. - mike lee - baltimore - curiouslee.com |
| Curiously down... Thu 10.17.02 8:24am PDT #577 |
Aargh, my main blog site and others on my ISP's server has been down for several hours. This is the second time in as many weeks. I may have to finally switch my DNS to point to the mirror site I've been building. - mike lee - baltimore - curiouslee.com |
