I'm 20 feet up a ladder cleaning the gutter at mom's house. The label on the ladder seems to be saying it's a dangerous world below. The ladder is right.

I'm sitting in a deck chair on the Tide Point promenade in South Baltimore thinking about the glorious last seven months of my life.

It's an uncommonly dry night to take in the late night version of this view. It's been as many months since I've sat here in my favorite thinking spot. The Sidekick photo above is a blurry closeup of my digital camera's LCD screen which shows a nice time exposure of the Baltimore skyline reflected in the harbor. Looks like a hazy memory that is coming back into focus.

To be sure, the sundial on the Jersey City waterfront, and the view of The Brooklyn Bridge from South Street Seaport have served me well in recent months. However, with Charm City's little harbor, it's possible to stare straight ahead and see nothing moving except for the water. Impossible to do around Manhattan.

I've returned to meditation at its finest.

After a few hours of waiting and a pile of paperwork, we've traded in our three-year-old red Dodge Cougar for a stealthy new black PT Cruiser (the Touring Edition). My wife will miss "Kitty," which was her nickname for the Cougar. We're going on a short roadtrip tonight to break in the new car. One nice feature of the PT is the twin 12volt outlets in the dash so we can easily operate her iPod and my PowerBook without contention.

We're at the Double-T Diner on Rt. 40 in Catonsville, MD. A small display ad for a radio sermon front and center on my placemat says: "Are You Hunting for a Good Church? Well You Just Missed Christ And Are On Your Way To Hell!"

They forgot to add, "enjoy your lunch."

We were just at sister-in-law Kate's place trying out Designframe's new Pause folding cardboard chair. The Pause made its debut at the furniture show in NYC last week to great reviews. It will most likely be carried by the MOMA Store. Kate's going to take the chair into Gensler's DC office where she works. I'm sure there will be a bunch of designers there who will slap their foreheads saying, "why didn't I think of that!"

I wish. These are closeups of the exercise equipment in the health club of the hotel where I'm staying. I decided to wait until the weekend to see The Matrix Reloaded with my wife back in Baltimore. True love.
