Labors of a knowledge worker
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayThis is the glamorous life of a web information architect: tonight he is mapping by hand in Visio a couple largish web sites that have to eventually be consolidated into one. While I can scarf up 80% of a site with automated tools, a human with some experience still needs to look at it all. Well, I'm off to McDonald's for a dinner break and to see what Sega game they have this week.

Thomas and his wife Joy came up to have lunch with Amy and me at Hull Street Blues Cafe. The pregnant wives, who were standing in the bright sunshine of a 90+ degree day, are pictured at right wondering when their information architect husbands would be done geeking out with their Sidekicks.

Angels Kicking

Nominally morning and evening outings times 365 days a year times 8.5 years equals 6205 times walking the dog. I'm not even going to think about how much squatting went on.

Surfing under the covers
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayShhhh! You'll wake up my wife.

Tonight I'm reading e-mails, The Mobtown Shank, The Gothamist, Dooce, and ofcourse Hiptop Nation.

The dog is staring at me from the foot of the bed and probably thinks I'm a freak. So be it.

Here are a few grainy-but-viewable photos from a short walk I just had around the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. I'm posting from the courtyard by the main library.

The first and last frames have a little fill light from a Black Diamond Four-LED bike light. Since the new camera can capture street light illuminated scenes, I'm going to experiment next with lighting faces in the foreground of night scenes.

Traversing Train Tracks

Here's some more testing of the new camera on random scenes along the train tracks near where I work. Our offices in South Baltimore are on the penninsula that is bracketed by Federal Hill and Fort McHenry. The train tracks that stripe this chunk of land originally carted immigrants away from a pier whose traffic in arrivals was at one time second only to Ellis Island.

Anyway, though the resolution is effectively higher in this new camera, the color saturation is pretty bad. The photos I've taken in bright sunlight so far all look ashy and dull. I noticed right away that the corners of every image are completely blurred too. The high JPEG compression leaves the image very soft in general. An example of better quality phone camera images can be seen on Xeni Jardin's Phonecam Blog. On the "bright" side, the new camera sensor seems to capture a little more detail in low light. All of these issues are eased by the fact that this is still a (relatively) cheap low resolution camera accessory.

Thank you!! Amy loved your post. Here she is busily constructing baby on the living room couch. That's our pup on the left, ballooning belly in the middle, and a graphical depiction of her progress through the new Harry book on the right.
