Shoulda booked the Acela
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayI'm on a standing-room-only Amtrak 158 due to arrive in Manhattan at 9:45pm. The train is full of college students so I am spread out on the counter of the closed cafe car. Thus is the glamorous life of a nomadic corporate consultant. I'm in New York City this week for one last week to wrap up my seven month contract. It's going to be an easy going week.

Emotions in depth
To the proprietress of aiyaa! :

Scientific American's June issue reviews the new book Emotions Revealed: Recognizing Faces and Feelings to Improve Communication. This looks like a great addition to my library, and I'm picking up a copy next week.

Stumbling on the Baltimore fireworks

We walked through The National Air and Space Museum on our way to the mall and the folk life festival. In the Milestones of Flight Gallery, the recent additions were two nuclear missiles and the Breitling 3 Orbiter balloon gondola that circumnavigated the globe. The gondola is a great and appropriate new artifact, but it makes no sense having nuclear missiles in the presence of true instruments of achievement such as The Wright Flyer, The Spirit of St. Louis, The Bell X-1, a Mercury capsule, The Apollo 8 command module, Pioneer 10, and The Viking Mars lander. These missiles of mass destruction belong in a museum of national paranoia.

We just got out of the late show of T3 at the Muvico Egyptian 24. The continuation of the story of John Connor was threaded through the now familiar Terminator formula of Arnold, car chases, sexy anti-Terminator, explosions, and all manner of weapons. Fate brings John a tough girlfriend who reminds him of his mom. Once again protected by their pet Terninator, they watch on as computers hack the human race. If you enjoyed the first two films, you should definitely see this one, but don't expect too many surprises.

A pleasant but not wholly unexpected surprise is that the Apple iSight is packaged in an unfolding paper cube box like the iPod. The camera is larger than I expected--really the size of a bicycle grip. The perforated aluminum case lends a retro "big microphone" look, but the business end is resolutely designed to look like a black-rimmed camera lens. Apple supplies a nice clear plastic pill bottle case for the camera that will undoubtedly get lost within moments of my getting home.

Hey MikePop! It's awesome you're going to Japan for the First International Moblogging Conference! Please say "hi" to Adam Greenfield for me, er, actually, I can just say "hi, from Mike Lee and Baltimore" right here. I'll be trolling the web for conference highlights.
