This is the face of the demo doll used in the breastfeeding class my wife and I attended tonight. I had to stifle a snicker when the instructor pulled the tongue out. But overall it was an informative class; my head hurts from all the technical information. Breast pumps, auxilliary nipples--oh my! - mike lee - |

| Dead Mobile Technology Sat 10.25.03 10:12pm PDT #6923 |
![]() ![]() ![]() In our ongoing purge of the house in prep for the arrival of the wee one, I've uncovered several pieces of dead handheld technology. Pictured here are an Apple Newton Message Pad 110, a Rolodex REX-3, and an original Cybiko Wireless Inter-tainment System. Do you remember any of these? What's on your dead tech pile? Things recently tossed or given away and therefore not pictured: the original Palm Pilot and a Motorola Pager Watch. My scratched and dented B&W Sidekick is ready to join this collection. - mike lee - baltimore |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Stopped into my office on the way back from the airport to pick up my copy of America 24/7. I had pre-ordered it and Amazon slipped a few of the orders out over a week early before re-activating a hold on shipping. The book will be put on display in bookstores on Monday. Barnes & Noble stores are planning a major promotion. The third frame here shows how my photo of a street clock in front of the Woolworth Building appears in the layout. I'm not crazy about the cropping, but it's way cool to be the first picture in the book. The picture editing throughout favored sentimental images (OK, I'll even say sappy) with a focus on people. It's a book your parents and grandparents will like displaying on their coffee table, but there's a good chance you'll like it too. - mike lee - |

Well, I only made it through about 10% of the Media Lab demos in a couple hours. There's just an amazing array of cutting edge investigations. Good thing my new employer is a sponsor of the lab and can get access any time. I also had a nice demo from Roz Picard on software agents for affective computing. For you DJs, here are some photos of Audiopad, an amazing tangible interface for composing music. The first three photos are of the system in action in the auditorium, and the other pics are of the first commercial prototype of the user interface and display system in the form of an IP Network Design Tool by NTT Comwave. NTT wants $80,000 for their tool--being on the bleeding edge is not cheap. The conference co-organizer, Professor John Maeda, noticed my Color Sidekick and whipped his out. He got his from Danger's CEO, who is a friend. - mike lee - cambridge, ma |
