Amy's on heartbeat and contraction monitoring now while we wait for the doctor and doula. It'll likely be many more hours before any serious action. Hopefully we'll have some quiet time and me a signal when we are finally assigned a room.

Well at 10:35pm tonight, Amy's water broke. We contained the flow, grabbed our bags, gave a treat to the dog and drove to the hospital. We're all checked in and Amy's on monitors and doing well. I'm outside again to call the doula service.

After happy hour with a collection of people from work and a train ride home, Amy and I are having what might be our last dinner out as a couple.

It would be really nice if the commuter train had tray tables, but the book on Union Station I just picked up is a workable support for my pretzels and Heineken.

After a trip to Michael's craft store Sunday, Amy and her sister made decorations for the baby's room. While they were sewing away, I pulled animal photos from my digital archives to frame. This art from the heart will liven up the bare walls, and also, hopefully, dampen crying sounds.

Not shown are various specific models of each such as my Sharp ExpertPad and Handspring Visor. I used Newton and Palm the longest. Currently my workhorses are the Pocket PC and Hiptop. The part of the photo that strikes me the most is how honkin' huge the Newton MessagePad 110 is compared to the rest.

This was the place I had my first (and second, and third) lobster roll. We'd love to go back one day soon.

Yawwwn...I just finished eating a bag lunch on the Mall in front of the National Gallery of Art. It's somewhere over 70 degrees under crystal clear skies. And because it's off season and a Friday, the walks and streets are pretty deserted. Now the seven-minute walk back to the office.
