My six-month-old baby daughter looked me in the eyes this morning and called me "da-da" for the first time.

A hot air balloon was being unfurled at the Inner Harbor yesterday for last night's Preakness Celebration Balloon Glow. Riggers use a big fan to fill the balloon bag with ambient air, then the position the gondola at the opening and fire up the gas flame jets. Studying the colorful interior of the inflating balloon is almost more interesting to me than the final result.

...at Phillips Restaurant at the Inner Harbor with my brother, his wife, our mom, wife and baby. The fact that all of us have phonecams which enable us to transmit pictures to each other and to the web seriously distorts my mom's reality.

Cianna is dolled up in a dress for a Mother's Day lunch, and she looks really cute. But she's gotten into the funny habit of pulling up her skirt and flashing people. I probably won't think this is funny when she's in high school.

What a treat: Lou Rosenfeld and Steve Krug made a brief stop in our office to give our team an inspirational talk about a variety of issues related to web site usability, information architecture and content strategy. The guys are in town giving a seminar. Lou sketched his well-known venn diagram showing how applying information architecture to web sites requires consideration for USERS, CONTENT and CONTEXT. And Steve chimed in about the "seeing is believing" power of involving project stakeholders in usability tests.

The plane stopped 10 feet short of the terminal at BWI. So we're waiting to be towed in. Good thing we have little pinky bear.

Baby is entertaining herself by pounding on mommy's Sidekick. The flight out from Dayton to Pittsburgh is 25 minutes late as of now, but the plane did just pull in. There's apparently lots of messy weather out east--a flight to Philadelphia just got delayed 2 1/2 hours due to fog. If we miss our connecting flight to Baltimore, it's going to be a long night.
