![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Marc Schwartz, another PLWer, is working on a Java applet that automatically detects the images in the memory of any digital camera and downloads them. This functionality is already in Windows XP and Mac OS X, but the advantage to a Java applet is that it works across the major computer platforms and installs itself via the Internet. An applet like this would make uploading images to a web site from a cybercafe very easy. - mike lee - cambridge |
| Sound Bites Anywhere Wed 09.01.04 3:35pm PDT #10178 |
![]() ![]() Noah's teammate, Carlos Rocha, showed me an early prototype of a simple companion module to the RFID tag reader that can deliver sound samples or streams from any Internet connection. The RFID/sound module pair could sense an ID tag passing near it and retrieve a sound from a central server. A series of these inexpensive devices could be used in a museum to play audio clips as visitors passed by individual exhibits. - mike lee - cambridge |
| Panning Across Large Photo Sets Wed 09.01.04 3:03pm PDT #10177 |
![]() ![]() ![]() I am finishing up sitting with several of the Physical Language Workshop team to get updates on their work. Noah Fields showed me his ongoing exploration on ways to display thumbnails of large collections of photos on a horizontally-scrolling timeplane. His prototype works with the RFID tag reader developed back in March. Tagged sections or pages in a photo album, for example, could bring up the corresponding image when swiped across the reader. I'm installing the prototype (built on eclipse) on my PowerBook to play with back at home. - mike lee - cambridge |
