| Washing the car, part 2 Sat 06.07.03 12:35pm PDT #4832 |
So now I'm home from the car wash place with a nice clean car, and there's a big truck parked outside in front of my garage. Apparently the neighbors are using webRentals, getting a set "for about a dollar a day." Doesn't sound like a bad deal, so I whip out my sidekick and jot down the name and number. I put it in my "Dallas" note, and off we go. Snap a pic and blog it once I get back inside out of the heat. Also typed in the license plate of someone who was gate sitting. I hate these people that get in by just following a resident. What's the point of a "gated" complex if all someone has to do is wait a few minutes for a resident to show up? I've started nabbing license plates of people I let in. It's real easy, I just park behind them and type it in before I open the gate. --Luke |

Took my car to get washed today. Seems like it might not rain for a few days, and I had a voucher for a free wash that I got when I got my oil changed. Unfortunately the placed changed ownership since I was last there (maybe a month), but lucky for me they honored my free wash. I'll have to wax my car later. 48 hour guarantees rule. --Luke |

| Color SK thoughts Thu 06.05.03 7:17pm PDT #4807 |
Saw they are releasing the new color sidekick tomorrow, thought I would chime in with my opinions. It doesn't really seem like anything revolutionary, just the next logical step. With everything converting to color, the sidekick had to convert or be left behind. I worry about the battery life, as the B&W one I have now would be lucky to make it two full days without charging. The new camera would be nice, as the tiny pics I take now are fairly useless. Being able to see them in color has its advantages too. But IM/email/SMS/phone would seem to be exactly the same. I really like this phone though. I love being able to check all my email (which is mostly web-based) no matter where I am, check real websites when I need to for free, and not have to worry about going over my allotment of minutes or data. What I don't like is that I don't use it very often. Yeah, I could blog my whole life, but just because something CAN be on the internet doesn't mean it SHOULD be. And I kinda feel bad for paying the $70 (after taxes) for this plan. What I'm looking forward to the most tomorrow is the introduction of new billing plans, so hopefully I can find something a little cheaper that has everything I need. Either that or I start using my phone more. So will I upgrade? I'm not sure yet. If they offer the upgrade fairly cheap to me and I can swith to a somewhat cheaper plan and still have enough minutes for the month, I may just do it. I was an early adopter of the original SK, but now I don't need a phone/pda combo. Maybe when my contract is up they'll make me a good offer to stay, I don't know. --Luke |

What do I do with my first paid day off in a month? Go shopping! Spent about all the money I would make today, but iat least I got a couple toys. Fry's is still having their Grand Opening sales in the Dallas area, and even though things aren't as cheap as they were on opening weekend, I still found a couple good things. A 350VA UPS for $30, and a 4-port 802.11b DSL router for $40 after rebate. I'm may end up taking the battery back-up thing to work, the power has gone out there more than at home, and it's much more annoying when it does. The new Fry's in Dallas off 635 is the exact same layout as the one in Austin at Parmer and Mopac. It even has the same little coffee bar in the middle. --Luke |

One thing I've been meaning to do is put more shelf paper in the cabinets in the kitchen. They used pressboard, which doesn't look very good, especially in what is otherwise a nice apartment. I'm using the marble looking stuff, and although no one will believe I have marble shelves, it'll at least be cleaner and leave less sawdust on the bottom of my pots and pans. --Luke |
| More Green Life Sat 05.24.03 11:26am PDT #4668 |
There's something else that is green and adds life to my apartment, Birdie! She's a little parrot that my family has had for years. She doesn't get that much attention with my folks anymore, and she really loves me, so I thought she could come live with me for a while. She really hates my Sidekick, so getting this picture was a lot more work than it looks like. The clicking sounds from the keyboard drive her nuts. --Luke |
